The best thing I can think of to describe the family business is to think of it as a “little business”. It’s a one-man show with a lot of people involved in it. It’s a job that, as a single person, I feel very capable of doing. My husband is a great resource for advice and help when the business needs it. I can’t imagine not doing this.
As a family, the family business is just a part of our lives. It’s still a full-time job but one that I look forward to every day.
I think I would be more comfortable just describing the company as “our business” or “our family business.” But for the sake of ease and clarity I will use the term “the company.” It’s just that for me it’s a little more “family” than “business.” And yes, I can’t imagine doing it without my husband.
With the advent of the web, it became more and more common to create websites with the aim of boosting the number of people with web presence who are able to share links to the website. It’s hard to find a website that does this. However, many do it because it makes sense.
It also makes sense because your website gets the eyeballs of other people that might be interested in your products and services. So the company should have a website that can be shared with as many people as possible. In this day of 24/7 internet access, it is a necessary part of the business plan to have your website reach a vast audience.
A good website takes in a variety of sources from people who are interested in your products and services, to the people who have your product or service in their lives and the people who do not. It takes care of the different groups of people so that a website can be effective.
In the past we have found that a good website can reach a wide audience that then can be “shared” or “shared to” for a fee. It is not a necessity, especially for a small business. In fact it can be very harmful, because you are creating a situation in which some people who have your website can link to your website without you being aware of it. You are not giving them a place to go and search for information.
I have been told by some of my friends that if they were a small business they wouldn’t have a website. I think this is one of the reasons why small businesses are not as successful as they could be in the past. They don’t have the resources to hire the right people. The same thing goes for SEO or SEM. You should not try to put out a website where someone who is going to use Google search will not be able to find your website.
I always like to think of small businesses as the guys at the bottom of the pyramid. They are the guys that have not built their own web site yet. Not all small businesses are as successful as they could be, but there are a few that can be very successful if they get the right resources, people, and ideas.
If you want to get your website out there, make sure you have a website that can rank higher than your competition. If you don’t have the resources to make your website better, don’t do it.
