There’s something about our country that makes people think that martial arts films are more violent than they actually are.
Well, sure, people have a tendency to exaggerate, but when you compare the original film to the more recent ones, you see a lot of actual violence. The original film was a bit of a fluke that people took a chance on. The more recent films have actually been a lot more realistic, in part thanks to the addition of realistic body-to-body combat.
It’s also worth mentioning that the original film, The Last Samurai, was so violent that when it was released it was rated PG, so there was no way for people to watch it in a movie theater. You need to go to a big cinema to see it for themselves.
