For every day that passes, the fight for self-awareness continues. I can’t say it is a bad thing. I’ve found that the things I do that make me feel good, are also the things that help me find my own self-awareness.
We’ve all been through it. The more I get to know myself, the more I realize that I am more than a little of a mess in the first place. In a situation like this, it is nice to know that self-awareness is not only possible, but that I have it within my power to create it.
One of the greatest benefits of self-awareness is how it can keep us from losing touch with ourselves. So here’s what this means: If you’ve ever been in a situation where you started to lose touch with yourself, it is possible that you are losing touch with how you feel. You might have been in a situation where you were feeling angry, sad, or scared, and the more you lost touch with yourself, the more you were feeling those things.
By losing touch with yourself, you are also losing touch with your body, and this is something I have said before, but you really seem to be paying attention to. While you may think you are being your usual self, your body, like your mind, may not be in agreement. You may be feeling too tired, too angry, or even too scared. You may be losing touch with what it is that you actually feel. This leads to a bit of a paradox.
I find this paradox to be a very good thing because it helps me focus in on more detail. It allows me to see what exactly I’m feeling, and to then ask myself “what might I have done?” It is like the body has a mind of its own. It will always be trying to tell you something, but when you are aware of that, you can better listen to the message.
I think this is also the way the body should be, but I know that may sound trite. The point is that it takes the body to be aware, and it takes the mind to stop thinking about the body. This is the way Zen monks often remind themselves that they are the body, but they are also the mind. This is one way I like to think of it, but it isn’t a real way.
I like this definition of meditation: “Listening to one’s own mind is the first step to being fully present.” I think this is one of the big reasons why I am so good at Zen. I think one of the biggest challenges I had as a Buddhist monk was in getting the bodhisattva mind to work for me. I mean, I was always a pretty quiet person at first, but I had to be more than that. I think that is why Zen is so powerful.
The point I am trying to make is that meditation is such a subtle practice. You dont have to be a monk to be meditating. You just have to be aware of your thoughts and be aware of your breath. This is what is going on with jasmine gong martial arts.
