The contemporary fine arts division of Sotheby’s has been an integral part of the company’s success in some of the most important categories of art, such as modern and contemporary art.
Sothebys has been around for nearly 100 years, and it has always had a strong sense of art history and curation. At the same time, there has been a strong desire for contemporary art to be viewed in a new light – that is, as a living, breathing art form, not just a collection of abstract shapes in a vase. This is an area where Sothebys has been particularly successful, particularly in its acquisition of contemporary art by leading international curators and private collectors.
In recent years we have seen a growing trend of private collectors buying contemporary art. It’s a trend that has been growing since the 1980s. It has become increasingly difficult to find art that is both contemporary and in good condition, so with the recent acquisition of works by some of the most well known contemporary artists, we have a growing sense of what “good” means in today’s art game.
The art world is full of art-lovers. Some are very well versed in their fields, others don’t even have the faintest idea. Some people are truly passionate about art, others only care about it as a means to a specific end. It’s a big difference.
The same is true in fine art. We love what artists do, but we can be very critical of bad work and some of it isnt always so good. What we like about the work is how it relates to our own interests, and what makes it interesting, and what isnt. But what defines good quality work is more difficult to define. We can only hope to improve on this, and make it more clear for other people what we consider good and bad.
The good art in the world today is often very subjective, so we can’t really have a real’standard’ of what is good art. But its possible to see some of the best art ever produced by the most famous artists of the last 100 years.
In the last 20 years or so, contemporary art has become more and more accessible to the general public. The average age of the people who have found great art to date is about 40 years. The internet allows a whole new generation to discover great art and to appreciate it. A few years ago I saw a bunch of art on the net, and it was in color and very pretty. I was able to look through it, and I was disappointed.
As it turns out, the people who created this kind of art are very different from the people who create the popular art we see around us today. The artists who create contemporary fine art are the most well-known, most well-known artists of the last 100 years. They are very recognizable, and most importantly, they are very connected to the world of art in that they are in some way involved with the art market.
Contemporary fine art is a bit of a misnomer. It’s meant to convey the feeling of the work of art’s creator. In modern day terms, it means that they create art that is not a mere expression of an artist’s ideas but rather is, in fact, a direct response to the viewer’s response. So this means they take a single image and turn it into a piece of art that conveys a feeling.
Contemporary fine art is a broad range of different practices that are all tied together in one way or another. So that, by definition, they are not in any way related to one another, but rather they all use the same principles to accomplish the same goals.
