Jin is a Korean given name that means “god of the sea.” It’s also an old Japanese word for “jewel” or “precious stone.” Jin may have been named after Seoul’s Han River because it used to be called the ‘Hanjin.’ Furthermore, Jin is often referred to as a gemstone due to its various meanings (i.e., preciousness, radiance).
Shinji was not only picked by BTS’ members themselves but they decided on their new group name together during 2010 when music video director Lumpens suggested it. Shinji suggests “the force of mind.”
Min means ‘wonderful’ in Korean and is a common name; there are more than 100,00 people with this first name living in South Korea. Min is also the word for beauty or charm in Japanese: an attribute that can be applied to Jin’s attractive voice as well as his good looks.
Jimin’s given names mean “golden bird who flies high” which perfectly reflects the meaning behind BTS song lyrics such as “..I’m just chasing after my dream like a golden eagle so I won’t give up even if I get hurt” from “The Bird Without Wings”.
Taehyung was not always his name. His given names are actually just one syllable: Jungkook, which means “eternal” or “everlasting.”
