I love the idea of waterproof paint, or it would be. I have often wondered if waterproof paint would help me to better prepare my wood for the finish. Although, as a novice, I am not sure if it would help with any of those things. I know there are a lot of people who love waterproof paint. So who knows, maybe I’ll try it next time I get my hands on some.
In a world where water damage is a common problem, waterproof paint is another way to make those areas more difficult to damage. You can apply the paint in water-resistant sealants, which are often used on exterior doors because of their low cost, or you can apply paint directly to wood, which is easier to work with and much less expensive.
I really like the idea of using water-resistant sealants. In fact, I’m working on a DIY project right now that uses them to seal up seams in two old-style wooden stoves. For example, the seams in these old-style wood stoves are a terrible place to seal with a glue.
When I first started working on these stoves, I could not seal them with a glue. Because the seams were not visible, it was easy to accidentally touch the seams and ruin the seals. Now, I use my sealer in the kitchen, so the seals remain intact. And for wood doors, it’s easier to apply the sealant correctly with a squeegee than with a brush.
The sealer comes in handy for all kinds of wood surfaces. But you won’t need it for interior wood doors or around baseboards. Just use a dry brush.

I was surprised to see that there is no waterproof paint that can be used along with a dry brush. I guess that means that there is no way to do that with a dry brush. I was also surprised to see that there is no way to seal up a wood door while being water resistant. I guess that means that the door has to have a waterproof seal.
This may come as a surprise, but we actually aren’t that far removed from reality. Waterproofing walls, doors and floors really isn’t that hard and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to do. All you need is some water-resistant paint and a dry brush. You can even seal up most wood doors with a few coats of waterproof paint.
Waterproofing the walls is actually quite easy to do. You can take a couple of coats of paint and a couple of dry brushes and you should be good to go. You can even use a dry brush to sand them so it only takes a couple of coats to get it all to shine and get rid of the old paint residue.
If you have a floor that’s been waxed, polished, or sanded, it needs to be painted waterproof. But even if you have your walls and floors painted, you can still use a dry brush to get some extra shine. I used to use to wet sand my wood flooring before I painted it with a sealer, but I don’t do that anymore. I just use a dry brush to get a nice shine and then I’ll buff the finish off.
