The Palm (pronounced “Baby”) is now out of business, and that sucks. We hope you find it a little funny how the Palm Company has been bringing something so neat like them to such a bad end. Palm’s accounting practices were first exposed by PBS in 2007, and the company is noted for their way of billing its own parent company, the Palm Corporation (also called Paval Incorporated). The company was founded in 1964 by John W. Palm Jr., his mother and brother, and his uncle Harold W. Palm Sr., all based in Miami, Florida. After they left business, they became consultants to the government and managed to control several corporations until they sold each of them to the Abu Dhabi ruler of Abu Dhabi in 1995.
PayPal has emerged as a threat to the eCommerce market. In October of last year, PayPal introduced their first mobile payment platform, PayPal Pay. This is a new way for consumers to pay online using their mobile phone instead of a credit card. It works on a device such as an iPhone or Android smartphone and allows you to do payments in just seconds without having to install software or wait for a location that doesn’t exist. It’s quite similar to credit card companies but is much cheaper than your typical fees.
