It’s a common misconception that you must be available for the company you work for to be successful. The reality is that you have your own business, so you are responsible for your own schedule and workload, and should be able to make calls and provide support.
There’s a good reason that many people work from home—you don’t have the same distractions as the person who is at the office. And the fact is that the phone isn’t as distracting as the internet.
In addition to your own work, some companies schedule an employee to be at the office most nights for support. This is a common phenomenon and is fairly easy to fix. This is actually one of the ways that companies can get around the “availability” rule. If the employee is working from home, they can be at the office most nights and not have to be available for phone calls and other interactions.
The problem is that it seems to happen a lot. I know that this has happened to me on occasion when I’ve had to temporarily fill in for a boss without him being available to do that. I think this is because it’s a much less distracting activity and makes it easier to focus on other things.
To see if this is the case, try asking for an estimate of the average time it takes you to get a response from your boss.
Some people just don’t like having to answer their phone and having to hear from people they don’t know. If you’re one of those people, my advice is to use a simple, one-line message that includes the number of your boss and say, “I’m sorry. I have to have a phone call.
I actually think using a one-liner is a great way to keep your phone to yourself. It keeps the focus on the task at hand, and keeps the phone from distracting you from it.
I think the number one thing that keeps you from answering your phone is that you have to know what your boss is up to and what your boss is asking you about. If he asks you a question that you don’t know the answer to, you have to think of something that makes you look like a smartass. I think our boss is asking us to make a video that we can sell to our bosses to help get him some money.
We’re making a video about our work, we are going to sell it to our boss, and we are going to make a video about him asking us how we got here.
Yeah, I think our boss knows all about us. He’s the one who hired us, so he knows we’re talented people. It’s a little sad because I think we’re all very interested in making videos. We would do that if we had a choice to do so.
