As the name suggests, Steel City Arts Foundation is an arts organization that hopes to give artists the tools to create new works. The site’s mission is to encourage and promote the local arts community by building and maintaining a network of artists, arts organizations, artists, and arts education opportunities that can benefit the city and its citizens.
Steel City Arts Foundation is also the website of the City of Pittsburgh, which means that the site is actually in the city. So its not just about helping artists, but helping the city too. It does this by providing arts education opportunities, arts organizations, funding for artists, and helping artists get in to the work force with a great education and a well-paying job.
Steel City Arts Foundation has been around for a while, but this site is the first one we’ve seen that’s been specifically designed to benefit Pittsburgh and its citizens. The site also provides a comprehensive directory of Pittsburgh’s cultural and artistic resources.
I have always been amazed at how many of the arts organizations in Pittsburgh are so small that you cant even find a website that lists them. Most of the arts organizations in Pittsburgh have names like the PA Cultural Council, the PA Cultural Arts Council, the Pittsburgh Arts Council, etc. It’s sad because these organizations are some of the most creative and passionate in the region (and in the world) and it’s so sad that they don’t have a website or even a phone number.
