I am a San Francisco native, and love this city. So when I moved to the U.S., I was excited to visit the San Francisco Arts District in my new city. My first real encounter with it was a trip to the new art museum, the San Francisco Museum of Art. I found the whole experience of the museum a bit overwhelming. I had to go back to the museum the next time I was in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Museum of Art is not the place to go if you’re in search of art. It is a museum dedicated to art from the 1960s through the ‘90s. They feature all the works of the then-new San Francisco Contemporary Arts Space, which was a sort of temporary, experimental art gallery. But I don’t think the museum is really about the art it features. It is more about the building itself: it’s a museum that has a big building.
The San Francisco Arts District is the newest addition to the area surrounding the SFMOMA. It consists of a vast collection of buildings and structures and art that has been constructed over the last 50 years. It has a lot to offer to the visitor. All this to say that San Francisco is the perfect place to be in an arts district. There is a lot of art in this district. It’s fun to wander the streets at night looking for the perfect art installation and to have a great time with friends. But if you are looking for a great place to live, then the SFMOMA is the place to live. We are looking forward to seeing more of this district in the future.
San Francisco is a city filled with art, museums, and galleries, but the SFMOMA is a great example of a great arts district.
