The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) – University Park (UP) Art Festival, presented by Penn State College of Arts and Sciences, is a two-day summer event, Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, 2016. It is the largest such event in the southeast, featuring more than 250 works from 40 national and international artists, with the entire event happening inside the UP campus.
It is a great place to see live art. There’s a lot more to it than just a fair, and this year, over 200 artists will be exhibiting.
The program includes lectures, lectures, and more lectures. You can literally hear it all, but you don’t have to, because you can always watch an artist speak live on the radio during the day. In addition, there will be an “artist on tour,” where art-loving university students are encouraged to contribute to the show by painting, drawing, or even sculpting their own pieces. Last year’s event was a huge success in terms of the number of attendees and the quality of the offerings. First, the lineup. This years show will feature nearly all of Pittsburgh’s best and most established artists. In fact, it’s not just the local artists that we’re talking about, its all artists working in the city of Pittsburgh. Even the established artists that aren’t featured in the lineup will be there. It’s a new kind of art festival, and we’re expecting it to be a huge success.
The show itself is nice. Some of the artists are pretty well known to the city, but not all of them. The lineup is interesting. I think its pretty cool to see Pittsburghs best and most established artists represented in the lineup.

You won’t find more than a few hundred people on the show level, and it’s really a hidden gem of a festival.
The show is a kind of an arts and crafts festival where you can pick a couple of dozen different pieces of art and buy them. Instead of spending your entire summer doing that, you can come out to the festival and get all the art of a lifetime. The artists present here create work of all kinds, from tapestries to prints to photography. They are also open to new ideas and new approaches, the kind that are not just about getting it right, but about making it new.
