I am a high school music student and I am currently attending the music school at the University of Central Florida. At the time of this interview, the school was located in Orlando, FL, but is now in a new location in North Palm Beach, FL. I will be graduating in the spring of 2013 with a degree in music education, and I am looking for a part-time teaching position.
I currently work as a part-time music teacher at a high school in Orlando, FL. It’s actually kind of interesting and fun to work in a different city, but most of the time I’m in Florida and I don’t see much of the state as a whole. I guess I’m looking for a place where I can teach in person, not some online learning environment. I know I’m not the only one in that situation.
I guess I should mention that I have been in this position before, in a very different situation. I taught piano at my high school for a number of years. I have a couple of teachers that I’ve had during that time, so I know they are still in good hands, but it would be nice to have the flexibility to be able to teach in person.
I’m still waiting on my application for a full-time music education position, but if I were to be allowed to teach, I could be teaching at a variety of schools. (Well, I guess I could get a “permanent” position if I really wanted to, but that would be a whole new story, which I won’t get into right now.
I know there are a lot of artists that don’t have a lot of flexibility, but a lot of people are like, “Hey, if I’m going to go to a music school, I want to be able to teach what I’m passionate about.” I know that’ll be tough, but I can assure you that I have a lot of passion for the art in my life.
It doesn’t matter where you’re going to teach art, you have to have something to teach. I could teach you art, but I’m not sure you would come back.
Thats the thing, I dont think that youre teaching art to kids. I think youre teaching them the things they love. You might have to find a way to teach them something that isnt going to be as important to them. But you can teach them how to draw, or you can teach them how to play piano or you can teach them how to read.
No matter where you choose to teach art or music, it’s important to understand that it can’t be a one-size-fits-all approach. Some kids can look like their teachers are perfect and all around great. Other kids just need to get a little work in. There are no easy answers here, and it’s important to remember that kids are doing this for a reason.
So, here’s the thing: if you’re going to teach kids to do something, you need to teach them as much. Kids learn best when you’re constantly asking them how they’re doing and when they’re doing it right. It’s important to be flexible, but also to be consistent, so that your students always get it right.
For the most part, this is true, and most arts schools will be pretty much the same. There will be one area of focus a lot of the time, but most will be pretty much the same.
