My colleague, Mike, and I recently had a very patriotic business card conversation and decided it’s time to put some of our thoughts together and start a business card business.
Business cards are so easy to make, but a business card business can be a bit more difficult to start, because there’s a lot of extra work involved to create your own custom design, and it requires getting your logo into the right places. But if you do it right, you can actually make a respectable amount of money.
The reason I wrote this was that I was a bit concerned about the way this card business is going to affect your brand. I thought it was a good idea to start a business card business at once, and start making it the first thing you see before you even get a chance to see it.
This is another thing that I hear a lot. People say, “Well, I don’t want my company name being on my business card.” I say, “Good riddance.
Well, if you do it right, if you build a brand name and name brand business card, you can make a lot of money on the side. Your client base will be your biggest asset and the reason people trust you to create those cards and bring in business. Most people think that having a company name on your business card will prevent you from getting sued. Thats a myth. It will only help you get a better lawyer and get sued less.
Its not just a myth, it really happened. In 1993, a business card company named American Business Card Company filed a lawsuit against the United States Patent Office. The lawsuit was against the U.S. Patent Office for allegedly trying to prevent business cards with the company’s name from being issued by the U.S. government. The lawsuit was eventually settled by the U.S. court that ruled in favor of the company.
A business card company sued the company that wanted to sell them a U.S. government business card. The court ruled that the plaintiff’s business card is protected by the First Amendment. The court also ruled that if the business card company wanted to sell the business card, then it couldn’t because the First Amendment protects its right to sell.
I guess what they should have done was just make a business card that said “Hello U.S. Government, My Name Is Colt Vahn.” Instead, they chose to sue. Maybe they should have just sued the government instead of naming a company.
This time we’ll see more of how they tried to get us to vote, with the usual “you vote” or “you don’t know what to do with it” signs on the walls. There are some good arguments in favor, like the above. But I’m not sure what they’re arguing, but at least we know what they’re trying to do.
We should also be aware that the majority of the United States government is based on the idea that Americans are inherently good. We’re told to be “strong” and “responsible” and “patriotic.” In reality, that’s like saying we should be “strong” and “responsible” and “patriotic” because we’re all inherently evil.
