We’re only six blocks from the museum of fine arts, so we’ve seen it a few times. Although I’ve seen it before, I must say that I’ve never gotten an “A” or a “B” in the course of a show. It’s not that I’m not a big fan of art, I just don’t think you can get into a show without being an expert.
The museum of fine arts probably has the largest collection of European art in the world so it is a prime example of the “other” art being appreciated here. The art is of the highest quality and very diverse, but the quality of this collection is clearly not what Im used to seeing in a museum. If you have a similar interest in art than you will find it challenging to find something here other than the modern art.
Its a bit of a shame, because the show is certainly very beautiful and the paintings are some of the most unique in the world. However, the quality of the museum itself is just mediocre. You can pay a lot of money for a building with a big and beautiful art collection and it will be a better experience if you actually have a reason to go there in the first place.
The good news about museum art is that there are so many great places to see it. I just visited the new museum of fine arts in St. Petersburg, Russia. Their collection is actually huge, and I found myself visiting several of their pieces in a very short time.
