I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a metal junkie. The only piece of jewelry I’ve ever made was a necklace, and it wore out. I’m still wearing the earrings, but I’ve gotten used to taking them off as I get older. One of the best ways to improve your metal skills is to learn how to use a wide variety of tools.
It’s pretty incredible how much can be learned about metalworking from just the metal. I’m not actually using the term “metalworking” here, but rather “crafting”, but the same skills can be learned in many different ways.
I think the best way to learn how to make pretty pretty metal is to make something yourself. It’s simple and the results are pretty awesome. If you’re the type who wants to impress, then I highly recommend looking into how metal is made.
Making metal, or any metal, is pretty much the same as making any other metal. You need the right tools, patience, and an innate love of the hobby. But like any other metalworking, there are many other ways of completing a project. Im usually not a fan of the computerized version, because you can have a better idea of how a metal piece is put together than you can from a hand sketch.
I have to admit, this is a pretty cool hobby. I learned to make metal pieces by hand so that I could put them together by eye. I also really enjoy going to local workshops to find out how other metalworkers do things. Im pretty sure I can make a pretty cool watch, a gun, or a sword this spring.
If you’re planning on building a gun, then you could also try making it with wood and using a traditional hand drawn process. Im going to try it with a belt-buckle hammer first and see what I think. It might be fun.
I had a friend who used to make a bunch of knives for his family. He was a really awesome person and a very talented knife maker too. I would love to put a few pieces together for me and my friends. I haven’t made swords since like forever, so I guess I want to start with something lighter.
I’m starting to make a bit of a collection of homemade swords, mainly for my wife. I’m not sure how well these will survive in the world of swords though. They will, but they will be very rare. I have several of my wooden ones, and the ones made out of bone are really the only thing I have that survived through many years of hunting.
If your wood is thick enough to absorb the impacts of a sword and its weapons, it will probably last forever. If the wood is thin, then it will break, and the blades will either disintegrate or be lost to the elements. If the wood is very thin, then it will be very easy to break and very hard to repair.
