If youre looking for a place to live while you build your new home, I would definitely recommend finding a duplex in the arts district because it’s actually a great place to live. The city of Los Angeles actually does a good job of providing affordable housing, so you get to live in something that’s actually a much better value than a typical apartment.
The arts district has a lot of lofts. You can get a lofts for about $250,000, but if you want to get the best one for your needs, you can get a lofts for less than $100,000. There are a ton of duplexes for less than $100,000. They’re usually in a nice neighborhood but with some trees and nice views and a nice yard area.
I remember when I was living in L.A., I was spending most of my time walking around downtown LA. One day I was in the arts district and I was looking at some lofts, and I was like, “I think these are really affordable.” There were a lot of them that were a lot more expensive than what I would have thought. The one I was going to get was about a million dollars cheaper than I would have thought.
A lot of lofts in the arts district are actually a bit of a joke. I have been to a few (the more expensive ones), and they all have a couple of really horrible rooms and a couple of really nice ones. I don’t know why. It’s not to say they are inherently not good places to live. They are just expensive to live in.
It wasn’t just the price of the space that made this such a bad deal. I was really impressed with the level of care and attention to detail and how perfectly it fit within the buildings. The fact that it was within walking distance of a subway station was also a huge bonus.
