My background in language arts is in reading, writing, and ESL. I have many interests in all of these, but the education in literature and language study is what I think would most inspire me to have a meaningful life and career in the future.
Well, I also think that being able to write like a novelist would be a great stepping stone for me. The only thing is, I can’t get enough of the way people write. I’ve always been a huge fan of language arts (I’m not a native English speaker), and now that I have a college course in it, I’m even more passionate. I want to know more about sentence structure, vocabulary, and how writing works in general.
Like most people, I am a fan of literature. However I think the literary genre is largely misunderstood. If its not a movie, TV, or novel then its not a literary work. So I think that studying it would be an excellent way of giving me a better understanding of what it means to be a reader. Even if I can’t really get into the details of what makes a writer a writer, I can still have a better picture of what it means to be a reader.
In my opinion, the best way to learn the skills of writing is by actually writing. All of the tips and tricks for writing on this site are about how to write in such a way that it is easier to read. But to actually be able to read a book, you must actually read it. I think this is why it is so important to learn the skills of reading. Because not only can you learn to read good text, you can also teach yourself the skill of reading good text.
This is why I believe every writer should learn to read. Because if you don’t, you cannot possibly teach yourself to read. You can’t teach yourself to read because you don’t actually know how to read. You can only teach yourself to read the way that one person might read.
Of course, reading isn’t easy and it requires practice. I remember when I first started reading and I was pretty intimidated by it. I was reading a book of poetry when I suddenly realized that I had no idea what the word “poem” meant because I was still learning. I mean, when I started, I was reading novels, so I had no idea what a book was.
The way I see it, the way we read is similar to how we write. The first thing we do when we start to write is pick something to write about. It might be an essay or a poem or a speech or something like that. Once we have chosen something to write about, we start to think about how we want that to be expressed. In our writing, we have to think about how it will be read.
I think there is an idea we’re all familiar with that is a big part of the difference between writing and reading. We read something and we know what we’re going to get out of it. We write something and we know exactly how that will be read and the same thing happens. It’s the same with writing.
In writing we can’t always predict exactly what will be read. We can only write the words we want to express. Writing is a visual medium though, so when we choose our words we have to think about how we want to be heard. If we want to be thought of as intelligent and witty, we have to think about how to be understood. If we want to be thought of as funny, we have to think about how to be accepted.
I think the same thing happens in the creative process too. We can choose our words and phrases, think about how they will be read, and that will be how we feel. Writing is a visual medium though, so our words have to be read and our feelings translated. When we choose our words we have to think about how they will be read and the same thing happens with writing.
