In a perfect world, there would be a society without self-awareness, but in a society without strong self-awareness, the people who matter, the “lions”, are largely the ones with self-awareness. For example, the “lions” would be the ones who know how to control themselves and be in control of their surroundings.
To be able to control oneself, one must be able to control others. There are many examples of this, including the fact that we cannot control our moods, our thoughts, or our emotions. So yeah, martial arts is a great way to get the self-awareness we need to recognize that our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions control us. It helps make us aware of the things that we are doing and why we are doing it. It’s a great way to be aware of how we are hurting other people by our actions, which is a really useful skill to have if we ever want to move into the martial arts business.
