I was excited to hear that a festival has been announced for this fall to celebrate the arts and music of the mid-20th century. This announcement was made by the festival’s director and the director of the Jazz Academy of Chicago.
It’s a great time to be a Jazz fan (or music fan) in Chicago! We’re hoping to announce the festival in October, but the main festival date is December 20th, and the main festival will feature over 200 artists, more than any other festival I know of.
The Jazz Academy is a fine program, but I have to wonder if it is a good way to get the word out about a new festival. A festival that seems to be geared toward the hipster-cool crowd? I don’t think so. As a whole, Jazz is a very hip and fun art form to see. I think the hipsters are a bit too focused on the music and not enough on the festival. This one is for the more music fan in the crowd.
For me the big question is this: will denton arts get the word out about any new jazz festival? I don’t think so. I think the hipster crowd doesn’t really want to hear about any jazz festival because they are just too focused on the music. People who are music fans don’t want to hear about jazz because they love the music.
In the end, there will be a new festival, but I believe the people who are too focused on music will only attend a few events. There will be a more casual crowd who might check out a festival, but will not be really interested in finding out what’s going on.
As for the jazz festival, I think it’s a joke because jazz is just like any other genre of music. It’s a music genre where the fans of the original artists are far more important than the fans of the current artists. There are tens of thousands of jazz fans who are going to be there, but I think the hipster crowd will just stay at home and listen to their music on their ipods.
