The Contemporary Arts Center is located in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana, and is home to the prestigious New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Orleans Art Center, and the Louisiana Art Center.
The MOCA, which is located in the historic Lower Garden District, has been the home of the world’s most important artistic community since the early 20th century. It’s also the home of an incredible collection of modern and contemporary art on display, with the gallery’s collection numbering some 5,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings.
The city of New Orleans is renowned for its art, and the MOCA is a major center for contemporary art. A new contemporary art center is opening next week. Called New Orleans Contemporary, it will be located in the heart of the city at the corner of Congress and Canal Streets. The contemporary art center will feature exhibitions, workshops, and a gallery dedicated to the work of artists living and working in the city.
The MOCA is planning to open in February, but we have yet to see an official announcement. The location and timing of the opening is yet to be determined.
New Orleans is an art city on the cusp of its own renaissance. It is still pretty young, but people seem to be coming out of the woodwork in droves to catch a glimpse of the work of the greats. I know I’m one of them.
New Orleans is a town that is still discovering its own identity, even as the city itself is slowly taking shape. We were told by our tour guide at the MOCA that the city was founded by the Spanish in the early 17th century with as many as three churches, many of which have now been converted into museums. The first permanent white building was built in 1792 in what is now the French Quarter.
In the 19th century, the city was very important for its shipping and was the site of the first international fair held in America. It was also the site of the first World’s Fair, in 1873, and of the first New Orleans Jazz Festival in 1905. The area itself is full of art and culture and is one of the best kept secrets in the world. The city also has a unique history and is known for its African American history.
The French Quarter is also home to the modern arts center, which opened in 2015. It is New Orleans institution that has created and exhibits contemporary art. The space is designed like a small village and is a mix of art galleries and theaters, as well as a contemporary art museum. The New Orleans artist duo, Robert Mandel and Thomas Moran have created the gallery and the center is the only museum in the city that presents works in both African American and contemporary art.
It should be noted that the center has a few other works on exhibit besides Mandel’s and Moran’s work, including works by Paul Cézanne, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Robert Rauschenberg. The center also has a few temporary exhibitions as well that are open to the public.
The center has a great history of having the ability to accept new works from outside the city. Since its opening in 1996, the center has had exhibitions from artists like David Hockney, Damien Hirst, and Martin Creed. In 2010, the New Orleans Museum of Art was also able to take in works from other artists, including Jeff Koons and Banksy.
