This is a great example of one of our programs in action that brings the arts back to campus. As you know I am the Music Director for CMAC but I also love to perform so this is a perfect opportunity to do both. I performed last night at CMAC in the ‘The Sound of Silence’ and I hope you enjoy the show too.
I performed at CMAC last night because it’s the first time that I’ve been able to perform at the arts center again. I haven’t performed there in nearly 20 years. It was the first time I ever performed for CMAC so I felt like I owed it to my students to give it a try.
I performed last night for the very first time. I really don’t know why I was so nervous! The reason I was nervous was because I was so nervous that I was scared to perform in front of my students. Because I had no idea what to expect, my performance was probably best described as’meh’. Because I didn’t know what to expect I had to improvise just so I could be ready.
I made a video about my experience performing last night with some of my favorite music videos. It’s a bit of a funny vlog but I find it a bit entertaining.
I’m still a bit of a coward when it comes to performing in front of peers. I’m just too scared to try out. But now I’m starting to get over the fear. I’m performing in front of my high school’s theater department this year, and I’m really looking forward to it. When I was a kid we would have the entire school in the audience cheering us on and asking us to sing.
Yeah, this year I’m performing in front of high school theater, which means I’m going to be doing a lot of standing ovations (I didn’t know that was even a thing until about a month or two ago.).
cmac has decided to open a performing arts center, and the first thing we are doing is making sure it is a high school theatre. The center will offer classes in voice, music, dance, drama, and some other things that are related to theater. The goal is for it to also be a place where students can find classes and take part in theatre productions.
As we all know, CMAC is located in a small, rundown section of Indianapolis, and as a city that is also heavily Catholic, the idea of having a performing arts center there is a little out there. But CMAC is still trying to find ways to create a place where a lot of different cultures can come together.
CMAC has a great history of being a hub for art classes and performance, and as a city that has a population that is more than fifty percent Catholic, CMAC is a place of religious observances. They might have been the first city to have an arts center, but I don’t see the connection. The city of Indianapolis has always been more interested in doing business than in having an arts center.
But CMAC has always been there. And now its time to take a step back and look at what kind of center it is. Why do we need an art center? Because we need to have multiple arts centers. And they are going to have to share and collaborate to make sure that they can all do their jobs.
