There is a certain feeling of anonymity when we look at people, and it’s like if you can’t say anything, you can at least look like you’re a guy who is very sure of his own opinions. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been in a room and I have to say, “Wow, everybody here is really smart.
You know how when you’re in a room full of people you’re just like, wow, everyone here is so smart. But then you realize, like, Oh, I know there is a lot of smart people in this room, but I don’t know anyone like them.
So when you’re working in a business setting, you are not exactly anonymous. You are in a position where you need to be open to criticism, you’re dealing with people who want to be liked, and you are dealing with people who have made a lot of money and want to be liked. That’s the reality of business. But the fact that we’re not exactly anonymous in our work forces us to be even more careful about our comments and opinions.
Its like a team of surgeons with a lot of different kinds of skills, just like its a group of surgeons with different kinds of skills. You need to be open to criticism, to deal with people who want to be liked, to be open to feedback, and to be open to criticism. It can make you a better person.
In all of the trailers in this book, Colt is the main character. He’s a smarty-pants who, when he sees a bad deed he is willing to forgive, can be a better person for it. His past is in the past, his past is in the future. He’s a really smart guy. But if you want to be like him, you need to be open to criticisms, to feedback, and to criticism.
If you want to be open to feedback, you need to get really close to him, to the people who have responded and shown some kindness towards him. Because, you know, you’re not the only one who’s been in trouble, so that’s the good news. You’re the only one who has come out with a bad word.
