We all get a rhythm of work and rest, and I think it’s a crucial part of being a professional. It is, after all, the only way that you can pay for the things that you use to make your life feel more fulfilling.
The biggest drawback of working in the office is it can be difficult to keep track of your work hours, so I want to talk about some of the changes that we’ve seen in a few years as you get older and get more involved.
Now that youre getting a little older, you are probably not too thrilled about the idea of working longer hours. I know I definitely was not. I worked almost 8 hours a day, and I was exhausted every day. It felt like I was doing something to myself, something that was important. But not only was it not necessary to do longer hours to feel fulfilled, it was actually harmful to you.
Some of you may be wondering what I mean by that.
I mean that youre working too much and youre not getting enough sleep. If youre not getting enough sleep, youre not getting enough rest. This is also true for the elderly, but because I’m a senior citizen, I get the most sleep at night. So I’m working a little more than most people. But I’m not complaining. I’m just glad that I’m not doing it to myself.
I hate to break it to you, but if youre so busy, youre probably not getting enough sleep. My advice to you is to schedule your work so you can fit in time for sleep and sleep only when you’re not working.
I know it’s hard to do, but if you are working overtime and just staying up late, then you are not getting enough sleep. I suggest you try to do it in chunks. You can start by taking a quick 10 minute nap after work. Then you can take a short nap in the afternoon. And finally, you can take a nap in the middle of the night so you are not exhausted when you return to your computer.
If you really need to work this out, I suggest you spend a few hours up to 30 minutes at your desk and start from a basic level and not all that complicated. You don’t have to be working all the time.
I am not saying that you should have to sleep all the time, but I think it’s really good to do it in chunks. You can start with the basic level and then the 10 minute nap. Then you can take a while to find out what level you need to sleep. Finally, you can take a nap in the middle of the night and then you can sleep until the next day.
