Business ethics is a topic I have discussed in several of my posts and have even published a book called “Business Ethics Now” which is a compilation of my thoughts about the subject.
Business ethics is all about the ethics and morals of your business. It is the values that you place on what you do. It is the moral values you place on your decisions. It is the values that determine what you will and won’t do. I often talk about it here because the topic is so important.
The issue is that there are many different definitions of “morality” as there are different cultures and religions. I’ve never been good at trying to understand the different definitions because I’m not a scholar, but I will say that I believe that there is a value that everyone has when it comes to ethics. If you want to talk about business ethics, you should be talking about the values you place on your decisions.
Business ethics are defined as those values you have when you choose to make a purchase or decision that will have an effect on other people. If you don’t want your company to lose out to competitors who have different values, you should be looking to change your values in such a way that others are more likely to follow suit.
The goal of business ethics is to set a business’s values in an objective, reasonable way. If you take the time to read this, you can then make an informed decision about what value you want to place on your business. The goal should be a balanced set of values that are in line with the business’s overall interests. Business ethics are not just a matter of money, although money may play a part, but it’s a lot more than that.
In business a balanced set of values is the key to long term success. The most successful businesses I have worked for, when you look at them objectively, are those with a balanced set of values. The best way to get a balance between the different values in a company is to let each of you have a say in how your company handles them.
Having a balanced set of values is not actually a set of values, but a set of values that the business is actually using. The way that balance is achieved is through a set of processes. This is a process that allows every individual to contribute to a balanced set of values. When you have a set of processes that everyone agrees is working, you’ve achieved a balanced set of values. It is when a business has a process that is ignored that the balance is lost.
I read Business ethics now a few days ago in the latest issue of Inc. magazine. It was a very interesting article on the topic, and I was very inspired to write a blog post on the subject because, after reading the piece, I realized it made an awesome point. One of the ways that a business can have a balanced set of values is that it has a process that uses a set of values.
This should go without saying, but the first step to achieving a balanced set of values is to have a process that is followed. The second step is to have a person who has that process. If the process is ignored, the business has no way of being balanced. If the person who has that process is ignored, then the balance is lost. Now that I’ve said that, I’m not telling you to ignore these steps. I am just telling you to be aware.
