This video clip is my favorite from the barbara b. mann performing arts hall at fsw. I always love the way he does the little details of his performances. I think the quality of the lighting here makes him look even more amazing, especially when you hear that one of the performers was actually in the room.
I have to say, when I first saw that clip, I didn’t think much of it. However, after seeing it again, I saw that it was one of those moments where we are supposed to get really into the performer. And it’s not just the physical performance at the fsw. It’s the way he talks through it too, the way he carries himself.
When I heard about Barbara Mann’s visit to FSW, I was disappointed not only because I was hoping that she would change the tone in the show, but that I didnt know that her performance had been so good. I didnt know that she had been performing in the same room as the performers she was performing with. I thought she was just a pretty girl that had done well in a show, but then I tried to watch the show and I realized that she was really good.
It’s not that the performers didn’t have talent, it’s that they weren’t going to perform for anyone. Mann was a professional who had a lot of talent. It’s just that it wasn’t going to happen in the same room where they were performing. That is, unless she changed her mind. And if she did, I’d be interested to see the result.
Mann performed in a variety of different theater and musical genres in addition to her work with the Upright Citizens Brigade and her own solo album. She had a number of awards to her name including a Grammy nomination. One of the highlights of her career was the time she performed at the prestigious New York City Jazz Festival alongside her former bandmate and friend, pianist John Scofield.
