I’m a self-proclaimed “associative arts” girl. I love creating art with friends and family in every form, from paintings, sculptures, photographs, and more. I love to bring my work out into the world and be a part of new and exciting adventures. I work as a graphic designer, photographer, and graphic designer. I believe that creating is how we can honor the world, and we can be a part of it.
I’m a former art teacher and currently teach classes at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Georgia. In my free time I like to travel, I’m a “frugal” person, and I try to spend as much time as I can with my loved ones, which includes my two kids and their dog.
I’m not sure what an associate degree is, but I don’t really know what a degree in “creative” arts is either. I know you need to have some sort of course work and take some classes in order to graduate in a traditional way. But I also don’t know what a degree in “creative” arts is. I know it’s what you do when you graduate from college and get your masters or doctorate.
Well I think if you want to be serious about your career in creative services then an associate degree is probably a good idea. I would imagine that most associate degree programs teach you how to develop and market your work, how to write, produce, and sell your work, how to teach and coach students, and more. Some are more specialized than others. I think most associate degrees are very specialized because they are designed for the most specific of fields.
This all comes back to the idea of how we think. If you are going to teach, coach, or coach someone then you need to have a real good grasp on how they think. If you are going to do all of those things then you need a solid grasp on how you, as a person, think. You need to be able to give advice, and then to have a knack for making people feel like they can have their own ideas and take the time to articulate them.
The thing about teaching is that it is often so much fun to get out of the classroom and into the classroom. You can literally be sitting in a room and having a conversation with someone, and the person you’re talking to is actually doing the same thing. When I was in college I had a lot of fun because I could actually teach the way I thought I should teach. I was actually good at explaining stuff to people, and they thought I knew what I was doing.
That’s exactly how I feel with the associative arts degree. I’ve been taking the art course for the past two years, and my teachers have all been fantastic. I’ve had the opportunity to spend time in the classroom with art teachers, and they’ve been just as awesome as the ones I’ve had in the past.
My art teacher, Dr. Dan Wightman, is a great guy. He is also a professor of music and has really helped me understand how the human brain works. One of my favorite things about the course is that it actually teaches a variety of arts in a way that is relevant and interesting for us, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. The courses are very affordable.
Dr. Wightman’s classes are part of the associate degree in the art world. The art degree in the field of arts offers certificate programs in art, fine art, music, and visual arts. The art degree in the fine arts is a two-year program that offers two courses each year, the first of which is a year-long course in art history.
