If you think it’s true that your success rate in the drama realm is less than that in the film realm, you may want to think again, especially if you think your work doesn’t measure up.
Even if the drama academy is the only place you receive an acceptance letter, you still have to live up to the expectations of most people. And when your work does not measure up, you can’t really complain when your peers turn around and say, “it’s fine, you’re just having a tough time.” Because as the saying goes, “you get what you put your mind to.
I love American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I’ve been a member for over ten years now. But when I applied to attend my first class, I did so because I wanted to become an actor. But I quickly realized that I just did not know the right way to get my act together in a drama school. I was a theater major at a university, but I didn’t have a theatrical background or a serious training in acting.
There are some people who have an aversion to acting because they just dont understand it, but I found that I actually quite enjoy it. I dont think that you need to have a degree in acting in order to be an actor. There are people who do not like acting because they are unsure of themselves. I found that I was able to find my voice and my style of acting very quickly, without having to spend a lot of time in school.
I can honestly say that I have not been asked to do a school play, or performed in a school play, that I have not been asked to join the school chorus or the drama club, and I have never been asked to do a play or a musical. So, I have no idea how well I have done in this category.
The American Theatre Association’s 2014 American Dramatic Academy of Distinction Performance Index puts American actors in 15 categories such as acting, singing, drama and dance, and in a few others, such as dance, music, and dance. When it comes to being a professional actor, those who make it to the American Theatre Association’s top tier of American actors do so on the basis of their performance as actors.
The problem is that the American Theatre Associations don’t really know what these tiers are. For instance, they are currently in the category of “Acting”, but the categories are not defined. So, they can’t really tell you how well you are doing in the Actors category. But I guess that doesn’t really matter because the bottom tier of actors from the American Theatre Associations is the “Dance Teachers”, a category that is defined in the Actors category.
I’m sure that the american theatre associations do have a sense of what constitutes a good performance, but they don’t really know what the tiers in that category are. To me, the most important thing is to not be afraid to fail, even if you dont understand why you failed. The whole point of getting into acting is to fail and learn from it and hopefully improve your skills. So, the idea that actors would be in the acting categories but not the dance teachers is ridiculous.
A lot of the criteria for the acting category in the AADA are about how you perform in specific situations. How much you say something in a specific way. How you respond to specific stimuli, etc.
I think that we often take acting for granted, but the fact that the actors in the Academy’s productions are all professional actors is an important thing to consider. Also, the fact that this is a professional theatre company suggests that it was an important training ground for the actors. In the theater, you’re judged on a lot of things, but you’re judged for your skills and knowledge of the material you’re playing.
