The rivercenter is the largest performing arts center in eastern Tennessee. It hosts over 150 events each year. You can visit the rivercenter’s website to see what else is coming up.
The rivercenter for the performing arts is one of my favorite places to go to. It’s a great place to let off steam and interact with other people who like the performing arts. The shows are well paced with good music and great acts. A few of the events I’ve been to are the Jazz Festival, which has some of the best music in the state, as well as the Tennessee Shakespeare Festival, which has some really great plays.
The Tennessee Shakespeare Festival is one of the most interesting as it’s part of the “Great Backbiting” phenomenon. It has a reputation for having some of the best Shakespeare in the state, but in reality, the theater is just an amateur stage performance. The playwrights and actors are paid for the performances, and they are not the “artists”. All of the actors, actresses, and stage managers are volunteers who just put on the show for free.
The Tennessee Shakespeare Festival has been around for a few years now, and its name is pretty much synonymous with Shakespeare. However, there are some other events that have been around longer, including the annual Renaissance Festival, which has some great plays and is pretty much the equivalent of the Tennessee Shakespeare Festival except that the Renaissance Festival is a lot more expensive.
Rivercenter is the performing arts-specific event that is run by the nonprofit organization Rivercenter for the performing arts. Basically, it’s an open-air theater that looks and acts like a movie theater except that the actors, actresses, and stage managers just put on the plays for free. The shows in Rivercenter are usually open to the public, so you can go to the theater for free and sit in the seats for free.
The rivercenter is always packed with the music and the dance and the arts and the theater, plus a bunch of other things for the kids and families, it’s a really fun place. I love going to Rivercenter.
