To be honest, I’ve never done a great job on this one. I will say that I’ve read and watched a lot of documentaries and I love the idea of doing a creative camp, but I didn’t really get around to doing it until recently. So, for my first appel farm arts camp, I decided to skip the traditional camping and instead do something a little more adventurous.
I actually came up with this idea of doing a camp in the woods. It was a great way to go camping outdoors all by yourself and it was also a great way to be able to practice my skills as a leader. Ive been doing a lot of wilderness survival and this was the closest thing to it.
To be perfectly honest, a camping camp is the closest thing we have to a “real” wilderness survival training program. In its best form, a camp is a place where you can develop skills learned in a survival camp. But there’s a big difference between wilderness survival skills and a traditional survival camp. In wilderness survival, you learn the skills needed to survive in that environment. In wilderness survival training, you train your survival skills in a traditional camp.

It’s called the appel farm because it was originally a farm that was built by the appel family and later moved to the wilderness. I don’t go to art camps, so I can’t speak to the food truck, but I can tell you that the appel farm is awesome. They have a lot of great videos on YouTube.
Yes, yes, I’m aware that the staff who are teaching the campers how to make fire in this video are members of the appel farm staff. But, I’ve actually been to a lot of art camps and none of them are as fun.
I was a part of an art camp at a school in Canada, and I can tell you that the staff there were not particularly skilled at running the camp. One of their students was a masterful chef. They were basically trying to teach you how to take a simple food truck and turn it into a restaurant. I know it makes no sense, but it was amazing.
I don’t know if appel farms are like a ton of other art camps where you go to an art program that is basically just a bunch of people who are trying to make a living, but like I said, it was amazing.
