For years, if you want to get someone to laugh with you, you have to write funny business cards. But this has changed. After I started writing comedy I was asked all sorts of questions about my business. “How much money do you have?” or “What is your name?” and they were always answered with a question about their own name. “What do you do?” was the most common question.
The truth is, there’s no definitive answer. Some comedians make their money writing comedy for TV. Some comedians work their way up to comedy writing full time. Others do stand-up comedy, or work in the comedy writing business. But the fact is, there are a lot of people who make money writing comedy for TV. A ton of people.
Some people that make a living writing comedy for TV are also comics. Like a lot of people, I’m lucky to be able to work in comics business. I’ve been doing it now for about 9 years, and it’s an awesome job, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity. But there are more comedians that make their money writing for television than there are people who work in comedy business.

Im not talking about the people who make their living as stand-up comedians. And Ive not even talking about people who have to write comedy as a means of making a living.
That being said, comedians and comedians/comic writers do have a business card business. In fact, the best of these business cards are usually the ones that make you laugh.
I saw this business card at my local comedy club today. I was hoping that it would be good, but it was actually just the business card of a woman who is a stand-up comedian. I was just about to say something to the guy behind me when he turned around and just said, “Yeah, that’s a pretty funny card you have there” and laughed.
The problem is, comedy isn’t what it was. It’s the type of business card that doesn’t have the “look at me” feel. It’s the type of business card that can make you laugh and make you remember to look at your cards to remember to look at them again and make them look like they are going to live forever.
