This is a new art studio that opened in my hometown this winter. I am in awe of the talent and skill that is being put into this space. I love how this space is designed to make it feel like a place for creative expression.
Maya Movement arts makes use of a lot of lasers to allow artists to create realistic and naturalistic paintings. The studio’s artists are working in an environment that feels quite similar to the natural world. The art is done in watercolors with a palette knife and a wet-on-dry technique that mimics the rough nature of the ocean floor. The goal is to create paintings that are as realistic as possible while still being organic and feeling like a natural part of the ocean floor.
Artists at maya movement studios can spend upwards of 10 hours a week in their studio, and the studio itself is so large that it would take up the entire building of my university. Yet, their work feels so alive and natural that it makes all the difference in the world.
To be a professional artist in today’s digital age, you would have to have more time than most people have to spend in their studio. The difference in skill between a painter and an artist is huge, and that’s why our best artists are our best designers.
That said, our best artists aren’t just the artists in the studio. They are our artists on a day to day basis. That’s why we call our studio “maya movement arts”, because their work is not just the work of a few people. They are the people that have been doing this work for over a decade and are so good at it that they’re able to have a studio that is so large that it would take up the entire building of my university.

It’s great that Maya is as influential as it is. However, I suspect that the reason Maya is as large as it is is because there are so many people who have had the life experiences that Maya has. Maya has become much more than just a movement, it will continue to grow and evolve as it moves forward.
While Maya is still growing, it is already hard to find a group of artists who have the same sort of experience as the movement itself. People who do not understand what they are doing, people who are jealous of the success of other people, and people who are just doing it because it is more fun than something else. It is hard to find a group of artists that share those same sorts of experiences.
