Rasta arts is an art movement that incorporates the dance, storytelling, and art of the African American culture. A lot of Rasta artists are artists that have lost their way in the world, so they create works of art that celebrate their lost souls. In their work, they use colors, shapes, and words to express who they are.
Not all artists from the Rasta movement are Rastafarians. Those that are Rastafarians (and I use that term loosely) have their own art movement called “Rastafari Art.” My favorite piece of Rasta art is called “Ghetto Blues.” It’s a series of paintings of the African American community in Chicago, drawn from the artist’s memories of the area.
The movement that the Rasta artists created is called Rastafari. “Rasta” refers to the “Red Tribe,” a cult that’s a part of the Rastafari movement. The Red Tribe is a group of people who believe in reincarnation and a connection to the planet, so they often paint on the walls of their temples. They also believe that a part of their soul lives on in the walls of their home.
