Since my grandma passed in 2011, I have been thinking about her birthday and how much she meant to me. I have been searching for birthday crafts for her to make for her birthday that I can pass on to some of the kids. This week’s project was to make a cake stand that had a birthday cake inside, with candles, cake, and a star on top.
First up, you need a large sheet cake pan, and a bunch of white cake or fondant. Then you need to make a bunch of fondant flowers, and a few candies. You can use fondant flowers or fondant candies from your store of choice, or make your own from scratch. The flowers you need are a bunch of white candle-shaped flowers and white fondant flowers.
I decided to go with white flowers because I like the feeling of the white fondant. The fondant flowers I used were also a bit on the chubby side, so I opted to use the white ones.
The fondant flowers are actually a fairly easy way to add a little color to your cake or cupcakes. The trick is to make them a bit larger than the circles you want to put them in so they don’t get matted. Then you can take your fondant flowers and use them as centers for the flower petals.
The white fondant flowers are just the perfect size, and are easy to wash out. They are also easy to use because they are super cheap and you can use them over and over again for many cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.
I like to use fondant flowers as center pieces on cupcakes. I then lay the petals on top of these flowers and frost them with buttercream frosting. Then I use a spatula to push the frosting over the center, and then peel off the edges and add the remaining frosting. I like to use fondant flowers so I can make as many as I want at the same time.
Making flower centerpieces is one of my favorite things to do. My grandma, who I adore, used to make flower centerpieces for me as a child, but never really got around to decorating her own. I’m so happy she finally got around to it though because I have so many fondant flowers to decorate, and I’ll be using them over and over again for a very long time.
The idea is that you put a layer of fondant on the bottom of the flower, then fill in with colored powder. Put a layer of fondant on top of that. Then fill in with more fondant until you reach the top edge. It’s just a matter of dipping your finger into the fondant and letting it melt. I like to do this with fondant flowers because you can use a small amount of fondant and fill in a large surface area.
I love fondant flowers because they’re easy and cheap to make. I like fondant because it’s so easy to use (and cheap) to shape and mold into designs. It’s also great for making shapes because you can use a variety of techniques to mold your fondant into any shape you want.
