We have all had our own thoughts, images, words, and actions that had ritualistic elements. Some rituals are self-aware, and others are not. In this video, I share a few practices that I have found to be powerful ways to consciously practice awareness.
The first thing I would recommend is to learn how to be mindful. It’s easy to get in the habit of paying attention to a single thing or activity and focusing all your attention on it. But it’s much harder to be aware of a whole range of what’s going on in our environment.
The easiest way to practice mindfulness is to put your phone in a pocket or bag and focus your attention on a single thought. But if you want to practice being mindful over a longer period of time, you can try a technique called meditation. Meditation helps you clear your mind, reduce mental chatter, and let go of the rest.
Meditation is often used as a tool for those of us who are trying to reduce our mental chatter. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to just dive into meditation and expect it to work. Instead, I find that I can actually get a lot more done if I actually pay attention to what I’m thinking about. And since meditation is a form of distraction, I find that it really helps me clear my mind.
Meditation helps us get in a state of mind that is more receptive to what our mind is telling us. We tend to think that our mind is always telling us the exact same thing, but it’s actually a lot more flexible. When we meditate, our mind doesn’t want to make certain statements, it wants to tell us something new. We can even get into a meditative state where our mind is so busy telling us things that it doesn’t even realize it’s doing it.
A lot of people are surprised when they learn that meditation isn’t just about quieting the mind. The actual act of meditation is far more complex than that. It’s not about being still but rather about letting the mind tell you what it wants to say, that it wants to tell you something new or that it wants to say something about yourself.
I think the word “meditation” is kind of a misnomer. It’s not exactly about being still. It’s about being in the moment and letting your mind do the talking. I think it’s kind of like a state of mind or an attitude that you have when you’re having a really good conversation. You’re really engaged and not just waiting for things to happen.
Rituals are so common that they’ve often been taken for granted. Like when you drive down the road and you see a bird fly into the air, you think, that should be right. I think the problem is that we often don’t actually consider how those kinds of actions might be meaningful. When you look at something like a bird, you don’t see it as a bird. You see it as a bird. You want to do something with it.
Rituals are an excellent way to break through the barriers that normally keep us from really understanding something. It can be an interesting way to go about dealing with something that you dont really understand. For example, you could find yourself feeling frustrated and angry, and your ritual might be to take a walk because you feel depressed. When you start to realize that what you are doing is not working, you might want to try something else and find out where the line is.
Rituals are a very effective way to make a point, but they need to be done with some intent. That’s why the ritual of taking a walk is a good one. If you feel depressed and you feel like there’s something you need to do, you might want to have some fun doing some fun things.
