You may have seen me at the gym or on the streets, but you haven’t seen me in the martial arts. I’m a self-defense and self-defense training instructor. As a martial artist, I use a variety of techniques to defend myself or others.
Martial arts is a great way to de-stress, relax, and get your blood pumping. When I first began practicing, I was terrified of my first class. After all, I had never actually sparred before, and I figured it was going to be a whole lot harder than I thought. When I finally got into it, I was relieved when I saw how much easier it was than I expected.
I’ve been practicing since I was a teenager so I’ve always had a passion for martial arts. For me, martial arts has always been a way to de-stress, relax, and get my blood pumping. For a lot of people, it’s a way to get into the “old school” thing that is so necessary for martial artists to excel. You know, like the old school of kickboxing, judo or karate. I myself was lucky enough to have a friend who would take me to a lot of tournaments. I would always get nervous when we got into a tournament because I knew I would fail.
I’ve been taking classes in the last five years and I’ve found the same thing. I always get nervous when I spar with my first opponent. He is the same person I have sparred with so many times in the past that it feels like I’m dealing with a friend. I’m not really sure why I do it, but it’s kind of like having to talk with someone you don’t know.
You dont know him and so why would you spar with him? You know how you feel about him and what he wants from you so why would you even fight him? This is an example of a person who is doing something that is not right, like having an abusive boyfriend. If he doesnt treat you that way, why would you want to fight him? It makes sense to have a friend who believes in you and who will fight to make sure you are happy.
I do this all the time. Its amazing how much people tell you. You meet someone who you dont know but you want to have a nice conversation with. The problem is you dont know them, you dont know what they want, you dont know what theyre like. They are, after all, just a person. However, in the past, you have spent hours getting to know them and you now have a chance to have a conversation with them.
I think lees martial arts is one of those things that feels totally normal in that it happens to many people all the time. But it is one of those rare things that I can actually think of and relate to. You can also feel it in your own life when you have a friend who you know (and who you feel trust you) and suddenly you have their complete attention when you need it. It is a strange feeling to have and I actually think it can happen to anyone.
It happens to me all the time when I need someone to talk to just about any time. And it is not only when I am in a crowded room or on the phone, but when I am in a crowded room with someone I don’t know. Everyone wants to get to know you, to get to know what you are like, what you think. I know it is a bit weird, but it is something that I can appreciate.
Martial arts is a sub-genre of martial arts and it is often referred to as “martial arts/karate.” As the name suggests, it is often referred to as “Karate” but it is more often referred to as “Karate/Martial Arts.
