If you know me, you know that I love art festivals. I’ve been to a few and the one that has stuck in my mind the most is the mundelein art festival in the Netherlands. But since I live in the United States, it is very hard to find one that is not only in the Netherlands, but also in the states. The most recent one was the last one that I attended, so I will tell you about the one that I liked best.
Last year’s Mundelein Festival in the Netherlands was a huge success. The festival had more than 40,000 visitors, attracted a huge number of artists from all around the world, dozens of international galleries and art exhibitions, music performances, and of course, a great party. The festival was divided into two parts: one for the visitors and one for artists. As you can imagine, the visitors were very enthusiastic about seeing their favorite artists.
A few months ago I came across a comment on the festival’s Facebook page that was very interesting. It was a comment by a guest artist from the Dutch gallery “Artefossa” which had a booth at the festival. The comment read: “I have no idea why I was there.
To be honest, I don’t have an idea why I was there either. But I do feel like it’s a good chance for me to learn a lot about my favorite artists and why I love their work.
A lot of artists have a big interest in curating the festival, and that’s a good opportunity to meet them. Also, its always nice to hear about what artists are up to in the world (e.g., the latest in photography or the latest work by a well-known musician). If you can’t make it to the festival, don’t worry, you can always buy signed prints from the artists and try to take a picture of them in action.
Oh yeah, and in case you were wondering, it’s also a good opportunity to see my favorite artists in action. For me, the best part about the festival is going to the opening night where I can finally see my favorite artist and hear the artist talk about some of their most important music.
At the festival, you can actually get a signed print of a well-known musician, but only if you buy from the festival’s own shop (not from a dealer). Not sure what they are doing with the festival, but it seems quite limited. It was a beautiful weekend, and I can’t wait to see the performances.
The organizers have made a point of making sure that every one of the artists is there to talk to you in person. They even have a “talk back” section where you can ask them questions and hear their answers. The last time I went to the festival it was a nice touch that the artist you ask to talk to was in a wheelchair. This time, I was really hoping I would be able to talk to the artist I want to get my hands on for the next time I go.
I’m going to be in a wheelchair, but I’m going to keep you all in suspense. I’m going to be the artist who talks to your questions about the festival. As you can guess from the name, I’m going to be an artist who talks to your questions about mundelein arts, an annual festival that has been around for decades in China. It’s a great festival, held in the summer, and I’ve got a bunch of photos from my time there.
