The Puerto Rico Museum of Arts and Culture opened its doors in San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 28, 2007. Now the Museum is one of the few museums in America to receive a state grant to build a new building. The museum provides a variety of educational and cultural programs for the community.
The Museum is well known for its art and science exhibits, but its newest addition is also going to be a cultural one. The Science Gallery is a small space filled with a series of interactive exhibits that includes robots, microscopes, and telescopes. The rest of the Museum is filled with art and science exhibits that include the Museum’s collection of contemporary art, a collection of sculpture from Puerto Rico, and a collection of contemporary fiber art.
The Science Gallery is the first museum in Puerto Rico to be included in a National Park, and we have to say it’s good news for the island’s science and art communities. It’s always good news when the government recognizes the importance of a certain subject and gets involved with it, and the Science Gallery is no exception.
The only drawback is that the Science Gallery is not exactly a museum in the traditional sense of the phrase. It is an art gallery, with several exhibitions. That makes it a bit of a “tourist trap,” but it’s basically just a place to visit exhibits.
That said, we are really excited about the various exhibits we can see in the museum. There are several galleries on display in which we can see the work of the local Puerto Rican artists. Not only that, the museum also has several exhibits created by Puerto Rican artists and other artists from around the world.
Definitely a cool place to visit, especially if you are a Puerto Rican, Puerto Rican, or Puerto Rican artist or person.
Definitely worth the visit. We are looking forward to seeing the exhibits.

The museum features a variety of Puerto Rican art and culture, with exhibits created by Puerto Rican artists and other artists from around the world. Some of those pieces are on display, others are not. All are wonderful works of art that are worth a visit. Of course, you could easily drive through and skip the museum entirely and just take in all of the art in the neighborhood.
