The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is one of the most prestigious and well-known theatrical arts schools in the country. The Academy’s alumni include such greats as John Lithgow, Mary Gordon, Ed Harris, David Hyde Pierce, and Stephen Lynch.
It might seem like a surprise to some to find out that the majority of students at the academy are white. But here’s the thing: it’s not the academy’s fault. For the first three quarters of the 20th century, the academy was the birthplace of white-supremacist thought. It was the place where the “white race” was officially born, and this was no accident.

Its a great move, and I can’t wait to see how the academy of theater turns out. I’d never heard of them before, but as I’ve gotten to know more people in the theater community, I realize they are one of my favorite organizations to be a part of.

On the academy’s website, it states that black actors, directors and writers are being ignored by the academy. That’s right. They don’t even consider black actors, directors and writers. That’s why it’s called the academy of “dramatic arts.” If it wants to be anti-black, then it should be for black actors, directors and writers.
