From TAKO, a martial arts organization in the Philippines, comes the “Total Impact Martial Arts” video. The training portion of this martial art focuses on awareness, but it is the entire video that takes the viewer into the mind-blowing realms of awareness. The video shows the impact of TAKO exercises upon the mind, body, and spirit.
It’s the training portion that makes this video so interesting. TAKO has been running around in South East Asia for a few years now, teaching martial arts to the locals and spreading the word about their art. But as of late, they’ve been in a bit of a slump. The video shows the effects of TAKO training on the mind, body, and spirit.

Its really a combination of various martial arts and traditional arts. Some of the techniques are more advanced than others. But the idea behind it is that training is for your brain, not for your body. At the end of the video, the instructor makes a point of saying, “There are some things in life that are not worth dying for.
TAKO is very popular in Japan, and its use of kyokushin and kyoko are also popular in the west. The main idea behind TAKO is that the mind is the master and the body is the slave. When you train your body, your muscles become stronger. When you train your mind, your brain becomes stronger. If your mind is strong enough, and you train it, it will become stronger than your body.
I’ve actually used this video to teach my students and they have often come up with great ideas for their own training. They can be as creative as they want to be, but I can’t help but think that the only way they will become strong is if they train their mind first.
I’m not saying that you should have an intense bodybuilding routine every single day. I like to break it up into three parts: 1) a warm up, 2) a strength training session, and 3) a cool down. Each part can be done at different times of the day and in different conditions, depending on the goals of the person.
It’s a good thing that our minds are flexible and can take on so many different shapes and forms. In this case, it’s good to have a mind that can adapt to whatever the conditions are and take on whatever challenges are presented to it.
This is an extreme case, but I have found that it’s extremely beneficial to use a routine to work out in different ways. Just because you’re using an activity, doesn’t mean its something you need to do every day. Its easier to work out by changing body shape, or by changing the intensity of the workout, as opposed to doing the same thing for the same amount of time.
There are a few different ways to train different body parts at a specific time, but there are two that I prefer. First, is to work out at a specific time and place each day. This is especially useful if you have a fitness center nearby (but perhaps not so useful if you are in an urban area). Ive found that it really helps me to get an intense workout at the gym, but that I can easily do the same routine in my home.
