When most of us think of arts, we think about painting, fine art, ceramics, and sculpture. But these forms of art are not arts in the traditional, narrow sense—they are art forms in the broadest sense. They are arts because they are about art.
Arts are arts because they are about art. But when you have a great painter like Picasso or a great sculptor like Michelangelo, you can feel a bit lost if you look at the broadest meaning of the word. There are arts in the broadest sense. Those arts are not the same as the traditional art forms.
So in our book, broadest sense, we would classify those forms of art as art forms, and we would say that the broadest meaning of the word arts is in the broadest sense. We would call them traditional arts. This is good because it means that all the arts that we use in our everyday life are traditional arts.
This brings us to the third definition. This is the broadest meaning of arts, but we would say that they are not the same as the traditional arts. In other words, we wouldn’t call them traditional arts. So, we would not classify traditional arts as broadest sense arts, but art.
The art of painting, sculpture, and literature for example, is in the broadest sense a traditional art. This is because these arts were traditionally in the hands of the very few people with the most money, knowledge, power, and ability. As a result, they were the very pinnacle of art.
This means that art that is not widely practiced, practiced, or taught is not a traditional art. And as a result, they are not broad sense arts.
This of course leads to another question: how do you choose which art to practice? This is a very controversial question that arises from the fact that the very idea of “practical art” is considered to be a broad sense art. That is, these arts are considered to be the very pinnacle of art because they are the only ones that they are in the hands of the few people with the most money, knowledge, power, and ability.
I would argue that practical art is not a broad sense art. Broad sense arts are those arts that you can and have already practiced and studied. Practical art is a broad sense art, but as a result of the broad sense art idea, practical arts are not considered to be very broad sense arts. In fact, they are considered to be the very pinnacle of art because they are in the hands of the very few people who can afford, know, or have the ability to pay for them.
You can’t really paint yourself a pretty picture. You can paint a pretty picture of you.
There is a difference between practicing an art and being an expert in the art, but there is no such thing as being an “expert” in a broad sense art. It makes sense that the term “expert” is used in broad sense arts, but it is not used to describe a person who is a broad sense expert. So if you want to be an expert in broad sense arts, then you have to be a broad sense expert.
