Since 1998, we have been a place for creative artists – professionals, creative thinkers, and those who want to be. We are part of the community of creative artists, artists, and artists’ studios. We offer workshops, retreats, weekend events, and mentorship programs.
It is with great pleasure that we announce that guggenheim fellowship for creative arts is back. It’s back on the heels of our 2016 retreat, where we had over 300 attendees.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, guggenheim fellowship is a program run by the Fellowship of the Arts in Vancouver, Canada. A fellowship is a group of artists who meet for a weekend to share their work. It’s a unique way to get to know artists more in depth and to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the marketplace. Guggenheim fellowship is a great way to reconnect with your creative friends after a break.
While it sounds like an easy way to get to know some of the city’s best, it isn’t. We all know the artists who are making guggenheim fellowship work, but the fact is that it’s a program first and foremost. It’s a gathering of people who have made a career out of making beautiful art in a very specific area. While its a good way to get to know some of the most talented in the city, it’s not for everyone.
There is only one person who can make a guggenheim fellowship work – the artist – and that person is the artist. So if you are on the fence about joining, it might be best to take a break.
There are a lot of artists who make guggenheim fellowship work. I know because I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to some of them last month at New York Art Book Fair. And there are also a lot of people who don’t make it work. But there are also a lot of people who do and have done it and have a lot of success stories. So just because there is a lot of room for everyone doesn’t mean that there is a lot of room for you.
The thing is, there is no room for everyone. You need to know what you want. You need to be able to articulate why you want to join. And having a solid idea of what you want is a lot easier said than done. You may not be the kind of person who has an unlimited budget for the talent you want to use. You may not have a list of contacts that would make you a good fit for the organization.
This is why a lot of creatives gravitate to the arts. It’s a way to have a career. And it’s a way to be in control of your own destiny. You can only start a creative career with what you know. And you can only get good at something if you have the skills you need.
I’ve long believed that the best way to get into the creative arts is to take classes first. The first time I took a class, I was not ready. I had to go back to school and take more classes in my area of interest. And I learned a lot, but the idea of having to go back to school each time made me miserable.
